Dr. Jack is a retired eye doctor who splits his time between Charleston and Alabama and runs the stunning boutique hotel, 20 South Battery—which is also his home. The day of the shoot, stepping into 20 South Battery, I was immediately struck by its beauty.

Photographing Dr. Jack Schaeffer and his beautiful fur friend, Maverick, was a true pleasure. We were introduced through his lovely neighbors, Freddie and Bill Hecht, who live next door.
Jack looked fantastic in his blue suit and modern boots, and he was so relaxed and easy to work with. Maverick followed Jack’s lead and was just as easy to photograph.
It was a joy to be welcomed into their home and hear the heartfelt stories of how Jack followed his vision to restore this historic gem.
