Photographing for Stroll South of Broad at the start of a new year always feels filled with possibility, and meeting Christopher and Hunter Genovese was a beautiful way to begin.

I met them at their home in South of Broad, a space that immediately felt joyful, and full of life. There’s a natural lightness to their home—one that reflects not only their style, but the love they share with their four rescue animals, who are very much part of the heart of it all.

We began the session in the backyard, surrounded by charm, and slowly made our way inside, ending at the piano—where the atmosphere felt both intimate and timeless. It was there that one of my favorite moments unfolded. As Christopher and Hunter sat together, Penny unexpectedly jumped into the frame. We all laughed, and in that spontaneous moment, something real and joyful was captured—the kind of image you could never plan.

The cover radiates that warmth and personality, with Penny becoming an unforgettable part of the scene. To celebrate the moment—and the beginning of a new year—we raised glasses of champagne together, adding a festive, lighthearted close to the session.

Their story feels like something out of a film. Although they had known each other earlier in life, it wasn’t until years later—when fate brought them together again in London—that everything changed. Hunter was finishing graduate school, and Christopher happened to be there for work. What began as a casual reunion quietly turned into something much more meaningful.

Now married and living in Charleston’s South of Broad, they’ve built a life centered around love, travel, and the joy of their four “fur babies.” Their story is one of timing, serendipity, and the kind of connection that finds its way back when it’s meant to.

Capturing them in their home—surrounded by laughter, music, and the life they’ve created together—felt like stepping into something truly special.
